Star Wars: A Guide to Episodes I-VI
I’ve been interested in Star Wars for a while but I’ve always faced difficulties trying to keep track of everything in its vast universe. I wanted to make a book to help people like me keep track of Star Wars characters, technology, and planets. I decided to only cover the most important things in episodes 1-6 to avoid completely overwhelming the reader.
I only chose episodes 1-6 for this book because new movies were being made around this time that felt a bit different from the first 6 so I figured that would realistically be put into a second book. The audience would also have a good foundation before moving into the extended universe created in newer films.
The cover design was made to mirror the beginning sequence in Star Wars films with a black screen and big bold words on it.
I used the traditional Star Wars font for titles and headers to stay true to the Star Wars style. The body text throughout is a simple sans serif for readability purposes and to not take away from the illustrations.
The book is split up into sections- Characters, Technology, and Locations. All of the things covered in each section are put in the order in which they appear in the films. This is so the user can watch the films and flip through the guide book as the characters, tech, or locations pop up.
The color scheme I chose was mostly made up of neutrals, some muted colors and some bright accent colors here and there to reflect George Lucas's visual direction in the films.
The biggest challenge I faced was time management while illustrating everything in the book. I am very detail oriented and wanted to do justice with the things I was illustrating. I successfully completed the guidebook before my deadline by scheduling out my time and working a few late nights to get the outcome I needed.
